Different kinds of underclothes |
|
There are plenty of different kinds of underclothes such as thong, boy short, bikini, crotch less, swimsuits and skirt as well as reversible ones. There are one piece outfits such as teddies, vests, nightgowns, and baby doll tops. Fashion is popular today. It is not certain when people first started wearing clothes however, anthropologists give the range between 100,000 to 500,000 years ago. The first clothes were made from natural elements: animal skin and furs, grasses and leaves, and bones and shells. Clothing was often draped or tied; simple clothes made out of animal bone. When settled Neolithic cultures discovered the advantages of fibers over animal hides, the making of cloth, drawing on basketry techniques, emerged as one of humankind's fundamental technologies. Hand and hand with the history of clothing goes the history of textiles. Humans had to invent weaving, spinning and other techniques and the machines needed in order to make the fabrics used for clothing. Before sewing machines, nearly all clothing was local and hand-sewn; there were tailors and seamstresses in most towns that could make individual items of clothing for customers. After the sewing machine was invented, the ready-made clothing industry took off. The first swimsuits were, of course, no swimsuits at all. People have always gone swimming in the nude or in any clothing appropriate for swimming such as loin cloths. It was not until the 18th century that "swimsuits" were invented mostly for the purpose of hiding the human body according to the morality of the times. Swimsuits can be skin-tight or loose-fitting. They are often lined with another layer of fabric if the fabric becomes transparent when wet. Swimsuits range from designs that almost completely cover the body to designs that expose almost all of the body. The choice of swimsuit will depend on personal and community standards of modesty and on considerations such as how much or how little sun protection is desired, and prevailing fashions. Most swimsuits in western culture leave at least the head, shoulders, arms, and lower part of the leg exposed. Women's swimsuits generally cover at least the areola and bottom half of the breasts, but some are designed for the top part of the swimsuit to be removed. In many countries, young girls and sometimes women choose not to wear a swimsuit top, and this can vary with the occasion, location, age, etc. Men's swimsuits which cover the upper body are relatively rare in western culture. |
